Advantages of contracting with NSA

What is Intraoperative NeuroMonitoring?

Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM) is a well established surgical procedure that has become more technologically advanced over time. IONM is now considered standard of care during brain, vascular and neurological spinal procedures. It demonstrates reliability and validity during correction of deformities and tumour removal and patients can now benefit with the use of IONM during complex surgeries, far beyond scoliosis.

Spinal cord function can be monitored by various techniques including Sensory Evoked Potentials (SEP's), Motor Evoked Potentials (MEP's), Electromyography (EMG), and Triggered EMG. These monitoring techniques can be used either alone or in a multimodality setting.

Our goal is to protect Hospitals, Surgeons, and Patients through neuro-monitoring.

IONM promotes early warning of neural function should it become impaired or injured. This allows the surgeon to initiate immediate intervention. It can be helpful in identifying distorted anatomy from tumours, lesions and degenerative disease. IONM can also be useful during intubation and positioning of patients with spinal instability. Another benefit of IONM is the ability to assess anaesthesia depth as well as whether the patient has systemic complications.
